A WINCHESTER mobile phone retailer has gone into administration.

Phones 4U announced all 550 stores across the UK have been closed today including the High Street shop, located opposite River Island.

The company has blamed its move on mobile networks EE and Vodafone for failing to renew their contracts.

Phones 4U boss David Kassler reportedly said: “If mobile network operators decline to supply us, we do not have a business.”

It is not yet known when or if the Winchester store will reopen and no members of staff have been available to speak to.

A customer notice put up in the door read: “Following the unexpected decision of EE and Vodafone to withdraw supply from Phones4U, we regret that this store is currently closed.

“Please accept our apologies and we will update you as soon as possible.

“Thank you for your custom. The heartbroken Phones4U team.”
