A ROMSEY ice-cream maker has been given a boost to help add the finishing touches to her bigger parlour.
Sundae’s Child owner Karen Allen was awarded a £1,000 grant after she moved into bigger premises in Market Place, Romsey.
The Independent Retailer Grant from Test Valley Borough Council was paid in two halves and aims to encourage independent businesses to move into vacant premises.
Karen said: “The grant has been a great help to my business and I’d like to thank the council for their support to retailers. I have put the grant towards finishing our café parlour and our new function room.
“I’m pleased to say that Sundae’s Child is doing well and I’ve enjoyed being creative with my menu to offer delicious treats all year round.”
Council economy chief Councillor Peter Giddings said: “The first few years of trading for any new retailer are some of the toughest, but the Independent Retailer Grant scheme recognises that and includes additional benefits such as a year’s free membership of the British Independent Retailers Association and discounted advertising opportunities.”
