SUPPORT has begun for businesses relocating from a Hampshire industrial estate earmarked for housing.
Fifty companies will be moved from Bury Farm, in Burridge, when the major North of Whiteley development is underway.
The project comprises up to 3,500 homes.
Winchester City Council, Hampshire County Council, housing developer Crest Nicholson and the Solent Local Enterprise Partnership are drawing up plans to help the businesses.
At a meeting last week, they discussed measures such as a free property search service for the businesses. Other possibilities included practical help with relocation and specialist advice to re-establish trade in their new homes.
Cllr James Byrnes, Winchester City Council's portfolio holder for the local economy, said: “Walking round the site, I have been impressed by the specialist nature of many of these businesses. We want to keep them in the local area if we can, and build long-term relationships with them."
