A WAITROSE director has been sharing her secrets to staying competitive with Hampshire business leaders.

More than 100 business owners attended the Business Leaders Lecture in Winchester, hosted by leading accountancy firm Rothmans, two weeks ago.

‘Winning in a changing and increasingly competitive marketplace’ was presented by Waitrose commercial director, Sam Dickson, whose innovative strategies have been incorporated to help grow the supermarket’s brands.

The move has meant product growth has doubled the market average over the past four years.

Andrew Bennett, partner at Rothmans, said: “Ms Dickson’s lecture was of huge interest to everyone who attended. Key to the success of Waitrose is the confidence its name inspires in customers. Constantly innovative, with more than 4,000 new lines or product improvements introduced each year, Waitrose stays true to its brand and is known for its genuine interest in customers, the community and the environment.

“Its ability to successfully respond to a rapidly changing marketplace, where the demand is for value and quality, is matched by its uniquely loyal and long-term partnership with both customers and suppliers. These are important messages for all businesses that are looking to maintain their own competitive advantage.”

Following the lecture, Sam Dickson was presented with a cheque for £500 for national food bank charity, the Trussell Trust, which is supported by Waitrose.

The Business Leaders Lectures are aimed at further supporting the region’s businesses, covering a number of topics, and is just one of Rothmans’ events run throughout the year which also include budget and economic updates.
