PLANS for an “oriental dessert boutique” on a Southampton high street have been given approval by councillors.

Jinfeng Chan had filed an application to create the new restaurant and café in a vacant unit on Portswood Road that was formerly a charity shop.

Ten representations had been made by residents about the plans, with some of them saying it could have an “adverse impact on the amenity of nearby residential properties from noise disturbance”.

There were also concerns that there is already an 'over-provision' of cafés, fast food outlets and restaurants on the road while an proposed extractor fan would be 'unsightly'.

However council planning officers were content with the plans for the 100sqm cafe, that would open between 11am and 11pm, Monday to Sunday, and had recommended it for approval. And The council’s planning and rights of way panel voted to approve the plans at its most recent meeting.
