A SOUTHAMPTON bar that suddenly closed its doors last month is set to reopen under new management and a new name.

Sadler’s Brewery is set to launch its first Brewhouse and Barbecue by then end of the week, in the unit which was occupied by Marshals sports bar until last month.

The firm says its new bar will offer dozens of beers created at its brewery in the West Midlands, while there will be American barbecue food and an English pub-type feel to the newly revamped bar.

Daily Echo:

The opening will bring with it eight new jobs.

Marshals went into administration last month, less than a year after opening, having originally closed for refurbishments just a week before.

The bar opened in London Road last October and featured a range of television screens showing a variety of different sports, as well as serving food and beer.

But it went into liquidation on July 22, with one of the team behind the venue saying it “just wasn’t a viable business, it wasn’t making enough money and we were struggling to get a good turnover”.

Staff had been sent letters saying they had lost their jobs the week before.

But the unit will not be empty for long, as Sadler’s Brewery has announced it will open its first South Coast venue on Friday.

The firm, was originally based at Stourbridge and first opened in 1900, with its brewery supplying 12 pubs owned by the Sadler family.

Brewing stopped in 1927 but the businesses remained in the Sadler family who decided to restart brewing in 2004.

The firm is now based in Lye in the Black Country and its beers have since won a number of awards.

The new Brewhouse and Barbecue outlet in Southampton will stock nine cask ales, a range of craft beers on draught and some of the 100 bottled beers brewed by the firm.

There will also be a selection of spirits and weekly cocktails while its food menu will feature “authentic American-style barbecue food” including smoked meats and steaks and chicken wings.

Eight new jobs will be created initially and the venue is currently being fitted out with new cellar systems, lounge and public bars and snug areas designed to be similar to a traditional English pub.

Sadler’s Brewery’s managing director Chris Sadler said: “We are very excited with this unique opportunity to expand our portfolio and we see Southampton as the first step on the way to gaining a foothold in the south of England.

“The new venture will offer Sadler’s incomparable ales together with the only authentic American style barbecue in the area as well as friendly service, a relaxed atmosphere and excellent quality products.”
