M27 motorway to be closed eastbound for three days

Motorway to close

THE eastbound carriageway of the M27 will be completely closed for three days, it has been revealed.

The motorway will be closed between junctions four and five on March 9, 10 and 11.

A diversion will be put in place guiding traffic along Bassett Green Road and Stoneham Way, for traffic wishing to travel east from the M3.

Those travelling east along the M27 will have to travel north up the M3 to Eastleigh, come off at junction 13 and then rejoin the southbound M3, before following the diversion above.

Southampton City Council are expecting the roadworks and diversion to cause a lot of problems for motorists and have advised that drivers leave extra time for any journey they have to make over the three day period.

If the weather results in the work being delayed, the closure will be put back until March 23, 24 and 25.

And with the promised roadworks around the Redbridge roundabout/flyover for 2 months getting into Southampton from the west is going to be fun.

Sometimes I wonder if they actually want people to pay income tax given the barriers they put up to you getting into work.

I don't think it unreasonable to expect to be given information that is a bit more specific.

If you read the item it states J4 to J5 which is eastbound

It's always the same, really. People grumble and moan about the state of the roads, but the second anyone tries to do anything about it, those same moaners are up in arms.

If you had seen the article when it was first published earlier this afternoon it was (and what I put in quotes was a cut and past by the way) as I said. However, I expect some eagle eyed proof reader actually changed it before you made your comment.

I would expect them, when they heard the news of the closure, to ask why.

If they did not get a satisfactory answer, then I would expect them to go through other channels to get an answer.

If no success, I would then report to my readers the course of action that I had taken, and suggest that they contact their MPs and councillors.

With all that flack directed at them, the Highways Agency would, no doubt, come up with an answer.

It is 9pm to 5:30am closures.
They are reprofiling the carriageway to add a camber to allow surface water to drain.
This headline is causing so much panic as gives the impression its a complete closure!

Sorry, Until 5:30am on the Monday so Monday, which would be the main problem, shouldn't really be a problem.

This work seems to be reported elsewhere (e.g. in the Bournemouth paper) as a single 32 hour closure.

From 9.30pm on the Saturday, to 5.30am on the Monday; so basically only an extended one day closure.

Is the aim of the article to inform, or to exaggerate?
