Woman rushed to hospital after crash

A woman was rushed to hospital with serious injuries this afternoon after colliding with a car in a Hampshire town.

The resident, who is believed to be middle aged, suffered a fractured leg and serious head injuries in the incident, which were originally said to be life-threatening.

But the woman is now in a stable condition after being hit by a car as she used the pedestrian crossing on Commercial Road, in Totton.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 12.38pm today, after the woman collided with a red Toyota Yaris.

Police said that the vehicle was “slow-moving”.

The driver of the car, a 49-year-old-man from Southampton, was unhurt in the incident.

Four marked police cars, one unmarked police car and a police motorbike remained on the scene for more than two hours after the crash, as officers set up a cordon around the accident scene.

The road block caused long traffic delays for motorists travelling in and out of the town, before the road was re-opened just before 2.50pm.

One witness said: “I saw this woman lying on the ground. She seemed to be there for ages.”

Detectives are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact the police by calling 101, quoting Operation Ingersoll.

Amazing how many crimes there are in Southampton and the surrounding areas. And Five cop cars are here with how many knows officers.? I wish the poor lady a speedy recovery. Just hope she doesnt need to call the police out if she needs them at home. Bet there wont be as many if any!!!

Why can't the text on the list of news stories say that it was Totton in stead of "a Hampshire town"? Readers should not have to click a just to find out WHICH Hampshire town, WHICH Hampshire A Road, WHICH Hampshire library etc....

Might be as this was about 50 metres from the Totton Police station, which just happens to be the station where traffic units are based....

Given it was a possible fatal incident I'd say five patrol cars which are all likely to be single crewed is about right for the scale of the scene, but then again it's much easier to jump on the anti police bandwagon instead and be an expert armchair critic at every opportunity I guess.

Forest Resident. Why do you think I am having a go at the cops? I am stating a fact. It doesnt take 4 panda cars 1 unmarked car and a motorbike. to be there hours after the incident. Especially when Uncle F has pointed out the cop shop is just across the road.

To a point I'd agree. But there might be a need for the extra officers. They would have witness liaison, then a road specialist or two to record all the Stats19 data, make measurements. They might also need an officer/PCSO to make sure people stay out of sectioned off areas, track down CCTV etc.

if it was YOUR mother, sister, daughter or any other female relation Im preety sure you'd want as much help and support as you could to ensure they were safely removed from the car, while other traffic was diverted and the ambulance crews had police assistance to ensure they reached the hospital as quickly as possible. FFS the woman is seriously injured... why not write 'hope y ou get better soon' or well done the POlice for making sure no further incidents occured, no one else was injured, the area was quardened off for pictures and evidance, the cars removed safely, any body fluid removed, any car debris removed and so on and so on! Lets hope no one in YOUR family needs help at a severe car crash incident - shall we say sending 1 PCSO on foot is sufficient! T**T!

If it was initially called as a life threatening collision this requires specialist officers to go to the scene. Also you would be surprised at the amount of people who think the police tape cordon applies to everybody else and NOT them.
