Former teammates of Kevin Moore joined family and friends in paying their respects to the ex-Saints player at his funeral today.

Mr Moore died last month, aged 55, after battling a rare form of dementia, known as Pick's Disease.

He passed away not only on his birthday, but also the 31st anniversary of the wedding to his wife, Mandy.

Mr Moore, who was a central defender, made 185 appearances for Saints, scoring 13 goals, from 1987 to 1994.

There was standing room only at Wessex Vale Crematorium, in West End, for this afternoon's emotional service.

Among those in attendance were many of Mr Moore's former teammates, including Matt Le Tissier, Francis Benali, David Hughes, Dave Beasant, Iain Dowie and Glenn Cockerill.

Past managers of the club, such as Dave Merrington, Lawrie McMenemy and Ian Branfoot, were also present.

Mr Moore's daughter, Sophie, stood alongside his son, Tom, as she delivered a tearful and touching eulogy to her father.

She said: "To Tom and I, dad was not only a father. He was a friend, a joker, a teammate and a great competitor, and it is his competitive spirit we will never forget."

She added: "Since dad died, the response to his death has been overwhelming. He has been an inspiration to some, his football brought pleasure to many, and above all it is his kindness that has been remembered."
