IT was a day to remember seafarers who have lost their lives at sea.
Seafarers and families of sailors past and present gathered in Southampton to mark the annual Merchant Navy Day.
The event took place in the ruins of the Holy Rood Church in High Street, Southampton, and was organised by the Merchant Navy Association Solent Branch.
The service was led by Navy Association chaplain Andrew Huckett and featured the Southampton and Netley Royal British Legion, the Southampton Sea Cadets, the Royal Navy Association, the Master Mariners and other branches of the Merchant Navy Association.
The day recognises seafarers in the Merchant Navy who have given their lives through exploration, trade, war and conflict.
