POLICE have named a woman killed in a collision with a bin lorry near Romsey.

Margaret Stone was travelling from Romsey towards Stockbridge when her blue Vauxhall Meriva collided with a refuse lorry.

She was pronounced dead at the scene between Bunny Lane and Jinny's Lane.

The family of the 75-year-old, from Leckford near Stockbridge, have paid tribute to Margaret in a statement.

They said: "Margaret was full of life and was always an active member of her community, from her early days in the Girl's Brigade, through to her time as Akela in the Scouting movement, and as a volunteer at Cherry Orchard care home in Andover.

“With her husband of 44 years, Michael, she was a keen member of churches in Leckford and Romsey, the support they received from these communities was brilliant and valued.

“Since losing Michael five years ago, Margaret had been making a new life for herself and was in the process of moving to Romsey. She loved travel and enjoyed good food and quality time with friends and family and will be sorely missed by the many people whose lives she touched."

Anyone with any information about the crash should contact Sgt Barham at Totton on 101, quoting Operation Ashgill.
