HAMPSHIRE MP Caroline Nokes has landed her first Government job, after David Cameron completed his summer reshuffle.

The Romsey and Southampton North MP is the new parliamentary aide to the Disabled People Minister, giving her a role in some of the biggest controversies.

There is growing anger about delays of more than six months facing claimants for the new personality independence payment, after its introduction was botched.

And, this week, a committee of MPs delivered a stinging verdict on ‘back to work’ tests for the long-term sick and disabled, warning that they were causing “distress and anxiety”.

Ms Nokes said that her job would involve working closely with the minster, Mark Harper, in implementing changes to the benefits system for some disabled people.

The unpaid role of a parliamentary private secretary (PPS) is to be a “point of contact” between backbench MPs and a Government department. Although not officially a ministerial post, the job does require the MP to vote in line with the Government ‘whip’.

The reshuffle also saw Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage promoted to be PPS to the new Education Secretary Nicky Morgan.

Two other Hampshire MPs retain their PPS roles – Steve Brine (to Home Office Minister Mike Penning) and George Hollingbery (to Home Secretary Theresa May).

At long last a Good Southampton MP has been recognised unlike those two pathetic excuses of Labour MP's. First Southampton Female MP now starting to climb the ranks well done.
