A HAMPSHIRE MP leading the way in improving literacy and numeracy has welcomed a new report.
Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage, pictured, campaigned for the long-awaited Business, Innovation and Skills Select Committee’s report on adult literacy and numeracy, which has just been published.
Caroline led a debate in Parliament on the issue of literacy and numeracy problems amongst the adult population last year and campaigned for the committee to investigate.
The report reveals that there is still a high proportion of adults with low literacy and numeracy skills and that previous Government interventions have not been effective. It recommends reassessing funding for courses and moving emphasis away from qualifications.
Gosport-based charity ‘We Can Read’ and St Vincent College were asked to contribute to the report.
