MORE than 104,000 meals have been given to Hampshire’s poorest people.

Tesco donated surplus stock from its Nursling distribution centre to more than 50 charities supporting people in food poverty.

This has included 43 tonnes of food delivered to FareShare Southern Central so far this year to help lunch clubs for older people, play schemes, homeless hostels and drug rehabilitation centres across the county.

The supermarket has provided more than two million meals to charities across the UK through its partnership with Fareshare regional centres, which redistributes surplus food to the people who need it the most.

Its customers have also donated more than 15 million meals to food charities through its neighbourhood food collections in store.
