A MAJOR Bollywood star is coming to Southampton to perform a one-off concert which is expected to attract thousands.

Gurdas Maan will be performing songs from his latest album when he appears at Southampton Guildhall on April 12.

Tickets are already on sale for his latest tour of the UK.

Event promoter Pritheepal Singh Roath said it was a “big deal” for him to come to Southampton adding he was the Bollywood equivalent of “Michael Jackson or Madonna”.

He said: “He's a global star, not just in the Sikh community but in every community in India.”

Pritheepal added that there could be a chance that some of his fans will be able to meet the star after the concert which starts at 8pm.

Doors open at 7pm.

Tickets are already on sale now for people to see the Punjabi-born star, who has released 34 albums in the past 35 years since he rose to fame in 1980.

He gained national attention in India with the song Dil Da Mamala Hai and has written more than 300 songs.

Considered a treasure in the state of Punjab, his top hits have given him worldwide admiration.

In 2009 he won best international album at the UK Asian Music Awards for Boot Polishan.

As an actor Gurdas Maan is best known for appearing in Shaheed-E-Mohabbat and Waris Shah-Ishq Da Waaris which, in 2006, was also the first Punjabi movie nominated for best foreign language film at the Oscars that year.
