A WOMAN and her 11-year-old daughter had to be rescued after getting stuck in mud at a Hampshire beach.

Emergency services were alerted after the pair found themselves stuck up to their knees in mud at the foreshore off Tanners Lane, in East End, near Lymington at around 2.30pm yesterday afternoon .

Lymington Coastguard and Hillhead Coastguard worked alongside fire crews from Lymington, Redbridge, hardly and a water rescue team from Fareham to free them after the woman's husband raised the alarm.

They used a mud path and sleds to reach the pair, who were stuck for around an hour.

An ambulance was called as the 11-year-old was complaining of being cold and having pain in her legs though the woman was unhurt.

They were taken to Southampton general hospital for treatment.

A Solent Coastguard operator said the incident had happened at low tide so it was likely that the group had walked out too far and got stuck.
