DO YOU have what it takes to conquer the globe like One Direction or sell millions of records like Leona Lewis?

Maybe you dream of chart success like loveable singer Olly Murs or have your heart set on being part of the next JLS.

Now Hampshire’s singing stars could be a step closer to making it to the big time when the X Factor auditions come to Southampton.

City venue The 1865 is hosting auditions for the forthcoming 12th series of the popular ITV talent show.

Open mic auditions will take place at the venue, in Brunswick Square, on May 14.

The show is watched by millions of people across the world and has made huge stars out of some of its contestants.

Southampton’s own Tom Mann got through to the latter stages of the competition with the boy band Stereo Kicks last year.

But X Factor stars are not without their controversies.

James Arthur, winner in 2012, has hit the headlines for the wrong reasons for a string of bizarre incidents and just this week Zayn Malik surprisingly quit boy band sensations One Direction.

Last year’s winner Ben Haenow auditioned in Newcastle and impressed the judges with his rendition of Bill Withers’ classic Ain’t No Sunshine.

His debut single Something I Need reached the top of the UK charts, making it the Christmas number one.

Jamie Ford, spokesman for The 1865, said: “We’re really pleased to be welcoming a set of official X Factor auditions to The 1865.

“Not only is it great for our venue, but it’s also great for Southampton – a city full of art and flair. The X Factor production team are looking for a range of fresh talent, and we have no doubt this city holds just that.”

The open mic auditions take place from 8pm until 11pm. Those wanting to audition must be 16 and over.
