CHILDREN'S television legend Basil Brush is to present his first ever radio show to listeners in the south.

He will join regular BBC Radio Solent presenter, Louisa Hannan - or Miss Lou, as Basil calls her - for an afternoon of fun and nostalgia on Bank Holiday Monday May 5.

On air from 1-4pm, the pair will revisit Basil's early career here in the south and will also invite listeners to share their memories of favourite children's characters.

Although a regular on our TV screens since 1962, Basil has never had his own radio show and he is delighted at the prospect.

Basil said: “This was an invitation from Miss Lou that I couldn't refuse. It's a chance for us to revisit some of the fabulous music I, and many of the listeners, were brought up with. Who doesn't smile when they hear Mud, Glorious Mud by Flanders and Swann or The Laughing Policeman? Combined with my hilarious jokes and a look back at some of my escapades over the past six decades, Miss Lou and I will bring you a radio show to remember. Boom Boom!"

Louisa said: “Basil is a joy to work with, however, he can rather naughty and unpredictable, so I'm expecting to be kept on my toes."
