RESIDENTS told of their shock after a man’s body was discovered on a Hampshire beach.
Police confirmed that a member of the public found the body of a man in his 60s at Warsash, close to the School of Navigation, on a beach that locals said was popular with dog walkers.
An 80-year-old woman living on nearby Newton Road, a Warsash resident for 30 years, said: “I heard a siren and then saw a police car come down the road.
“I didn’t realise that was why, that’s sad.
“It’s very unusual – you might find a dead deer or something like that but not a body.”
A 33-year-old woman, of Newton Road, said: “That’s awful; my thoughts are with his family. It’s shocking to me.”
The discovery was made shortly before 7am yesterday morning.
His death is not being treated as suspicious and officers are now trying to identify the man and contact his family.
