A GIANT 1,000ft waterslide is set to hit the streets of Hampshire this summer.

Slide The City will be heading to Southampton but no dates or locations have been yet been revealed.

The gigantic 300m body waterslide has proved to be a huge hit in the USA where it has gone down a storm on the streets of various American cities.

Now the wacky water craze making its way across the pond and will be touring a number of cities in the UK including London, Manchester, Bristol , Cardiff, Liverpool, Belfast, Edinburgh, Livingston, Dublin as well as Southampton and Portsmouth.

The slide is filled with a foamy liquid.

Only a small selection of dates for the pop-up slide have been revealed by organisers, and these are for the events in Bristol, London and Manchester.

Southampton City Council told the Daily Echo that organisers have not held any discussions with the council about Slide The City.

For the event to go ahead they have to find a suitable public space that can accommodate a giant 1,000ft long slide which is the size of more than three football pitches.

Adding to the slide will be live music, food, and drinks to make the event a family day out, according to organisers.

Punters will be able to pay £10 for a single ticket to ride the huge flume between noon 12pm and 5pm, while triple slide tickets cost £20, where people can get a chance to slide three times.

Anyone who stumps up £35 for a VIP ticket will be able to slide up to an hour before and after opening times and get an unlimited number of go’s.

The Daily Echo tried to contact Nexia Holdings who own the event, the firm are based in Salt Lake City America,did not reply.

Former cabinet member for leisure at the council, Warwick Payne, pictured, said: “The council would have to find out more about the proposal for a waterslide from the organisers.

"They would need to be provided with some more details from them in terms of what help or assistance they may need to bring to the attraction to Southampton, and what benefits it could bring to the city.

“If there is a chance to bring another exciting event to Southampton then clearly that is worth investigating.”
