TEMPERATURES in Hampshire are set to soar today as the hot weather continues to make its mark on the UK.

Across the county the mercury will rise to 26 degrees during the hottest parts of the day – making it hotter than Adelaide, Ankara and Mexico City.

However Weather experts and health professionals are warning people in the county to stay to stop them roasting in the sun.

South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SCAS) is urging people to take up their safety advice to prevent sun-related conditions.

SCAS Operations Director, Mark Ainsworth, said: “We are encouraging members of the public to follow our advice and stay ‘Summersafe’ to ensure that you and your friends and family don’t end up needing our assistance this summer.”

They have issued advice to help people stay safe in the sun.

Tips include reducing the risk of dehydration and sunburn by avoiding long periods of time in the sun during the hottest part of the day between 11am and 3pm, wearing a hat, drinking a minimum of two litres of water a day and using sun tan lotion with a sun protection factor of more than 15.

While the Met Office forecast potential heatwave conditions for most of England and declared a Level 2 Heat-health alert.

Director for Health Protection at Public Health England (PHE), Dr Paul Cosford, said: “While many people enjoy hot weather, high temperatures can be dangerous, especially for people who may be particularly vulnerable such as older people, young children and those with serious illnesses.”

The hot weather is expected to continue tomorrow as temperatures will soar to 25 degrees, but it is expected that the mercury will drop on Thursday to 20 degrees, marking the end of the heatwave.

Daily Echo:

  • THE sun will be out in force in Southampton today as temperatures are expected to soar to the mid 20s – but could rise even higher.

Meteorologists are predicting similar scenes on Wednesday with highs of around 25°C with temperatures dropping slightly in the evening as cloud cover comes in.

But by Thursday things will cool off as rain comes in during the morning, with the Met Office forecasting an average temperature of 20°C.

And the sun will start to seem like a thing of the past by Friday as heavy rain showers burst through the skies beginning late afternoon and continuing well into the evening.
