EMERGENCY services were forced to close a city street after a man appeared on the roof of a Southampton shop.

The drama unfolded at about 11am when the man, who was said to be "laughing his head off", was discovered on the roof of Pampurred Pets on Shirley Avenue.

Police, fire and ambulance services were called to the scene and closed the road before using a cherry picker to safely get him down.

A witness, who did not want to be identified, told the Daily Echo: "There were two ambulances, a fire engine and a police car.

"There was a bit of a commotion and they closed the road and brought him down.

"He was laughing his head off and seemed to find it quite amusing."

The road reopened shortly after the incident.
