POLICE have stepped up the hunt for a man who has breached his court bail conditions and is believed to be in a Hampshire town.

Romsey has been swamped by police searching for the man and residents have reported seeing police helicopters circling the area over the past few days.

Police have quickly moved to reassure concerned residents in the area who took to social media.

One person tweeted:“So what's going on in Romsey today?? Police everywhere and possibly a police helicopter circling around! Do I need to lock my doors.”

Police sergeant for the Test Valley District, Alyson West, said, "If you were in the Romsey area you may have noticed a higher than usual amount of police activity.

"To reassure you, we were looking for a male who has breached his court bail. He is not a threat to the public and we are positive that we will be arresting him very soon."

A police spokesperson confirmed the man has still not yet been found.
