HIGHWAYS chiefs will be asked to examine safety on a notorious stretch of New Forest road following the latest serious accident.

Five people were injured in a head-on crash on the A35 at Hinton on Sunday afternoon.

Last month six people, including a family of five, were hurt in a two-car collision and a man was seriously hurt when his car crashed into a tree in July.

The incidents are the latest in a series of crashes which regularly cause delays on the busy route.

Now Cllr Keith Mans plans to take up the issue with highways officers at Hampshire County Council in Winchester.

The deputy leader of Hampshire County Council told the Daily Echo: "I want to find out more about the accidents and plan to ask whether there is anything specific that could be done to avoid these things in the future."

The A35 was closed from its junction with Ringwood Road to the B3055 junction for over six hours following the crash just before 2.30pm on Sunday.

One person is fighting for life, another has multiple injuries and three suffered minor injuries after a Ford Fiesta and a Honda Civic collided outside Dream Design, Lyndhurst Road.

Share article One casualty in each vehicle had to be freed by Hampshire fire crews and an animal ambulance was also called because one of two whippets travelling in the Ford Fiesta suffered leg injuries.

An air ambulance was called and landed in a field near the scene of the crash but the casualties were all taken to Southampton Hospital by road ambulance.
