RED FUNNEL customers have been targeted in a bogus email scam.

The Southampton-based company has issued a warning to customers over the bogus email virus being sent claiming to be a booking confirmation.

Bosses of Red Funnel Ferries have warned that an email is being sent to customers with the bank reference number 5838547.

The email contains a website link to myonlinesecurity and says it is a Red Funnel Ferries confirmation.

The company, which runs car and high-speed ferry services to the Isle of Wight, is warning people about the email and asks anyone who receives it to delete it immediately as it contains a virus.

The company also said they are currently investigating the cause but do not believe anyone has hacked into the Red Funnel security systems.

A spokesperson for Red Funnel said: “Red Funnel is aware that fake booking confirmation emails were sent out yesterday purportedly from post@

redfunnel.co.uk with the subject heading ‘Confirmation 5838547’.

“The company can confirm that these emails were not sent by Red Funnel.

“An advisory has been issued to anyone in receipt of them not to open the MS Word attachment as it could contain a self-propagating virus.

“There is no indication that Red Funnel’s security systems have been compromised; specialists have been appointed to identify the source.

“In the meantime, Red Funnel would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
