A NAGGING headache can bring a lifetime of misery.

Many sufferers wake up daily with a headache and visit doctors, opticians and continuously take painkillers in an attempt to tackle them.

Angela Vulliamy from Park Gate was one such sufferer.

And investigation revealed that her headaches were caused by an imbalance in the ‘occlusion’ of her teeth (the way they meet), her jaw and associated muscles.

“I had been suffering headaches for years and years and I’d seen doctors, opticians, chiropractors but nothing helped” says Angela.

“ In fact my GP said I was getting so many headaches because of the amount of headache tablets I was taking!”

Then Angela found herself at Titchfield Dental Heath in Park Gate, for an emergency appointment. They were able to get see her straight away on a Sunday evening and during the appointment Angela mentioned that she suffered with terrible headaches.

“It turned out that the problem was my bite as my bottom jaw was out of alignment. They gave me what looked like a clear mouth guard called a splint which I wore for a couple of months which relaxed the muscles and realigned my bottom jaw so it was in the right place.”

Practice Principal at Titchfield Dental Health, Clare Chavasse explains: “Other symptoms of an incorrect bite can be a clicky jaw or restricted mouth opening. We can rebalance of the occlusion through exercises, discreet splint orthodontics and minute adjustments to the teeth (equilibration). Treatment can also help to address tired jaws, clicking jaw joints and teeth that don't bite together evenly. This is simple to do and can be truly life changing as it was for Angela.”

For Angela, her emergency trip to the dentist proved to be very fortunate.

“Now I don’t get headaches any more," she says.

"I went to the dentist on a completely unrelated matter and they have cured me of my headaches and my fear of the dentist.”
