A CAR has gone over the edge of a cliff, closing the promenade below.

The grey Honda Concerto - registered to a man from Ringwood - went over the cliff at East Overcliff Drive in Boscombe, Bournemouth.

Emergency services are at the scene and the prom has been closed to allow them to carry out their work.

Police said they were called at 11.14am to reports of a vehicle going off the road and over the cliff.

Daily Echo:

The driver of the vehicle is being treated by paramedics and it is not thought that his injuries are life threatening.

A Dorset Fire and Rescue service spokesman said that two crews, who used specialist “working from height” kit to secure the vehicle, left the scene safe at 12.20pm.

He said this had involved firefighters attaching ropes to the stricken vehicle in a bid to stop it slipping further down the cliff.

John Ashton, visiting the area from Lancashire, said he had “never seen anything quite like it”.

“It looks like the driver has had a very lucky escape,” he said. “What might have happened if the car hadn’t stopped where it has doesn’t bear thinking about.”
