WHEN two of his schoolfriends were diagnosed with a life-changing condition he knew he had to help.

Little Luca Street quickly got to work on an ambitious fundraising challenging - raising more than £4,000 for a charity that will help two boys in his year group at school.

The cash will go to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, which will support his schoolfriends Josef Simonsen and Lewis Goodyear, both nine, who were diagnosed with the inherited condition within just a few months of each other.

The incurable condition affects more than 2.5 million people in the UK. It affects the movement of salt and water in and out of the body's cells, clogging the lungs and digestive system, making it difficult to breath and digest food.

After his classmates' diagnoses Luca decided to combine his two loves - sport and the Great British Bake Off, in a huge fundraising day that saw him turn Fair Oak yellow.

The nine-year-old Saints fan asked everyone to wear yellow and take part in a run run, a raffle and The Great Fair Oak Cake Off competition at Fair Oak Junior School, where he is a pupil.

Luca, from Horton Heath, designed posters inviting villagers to help him turn Fair Oak yellow - the colour used by the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, and asked every business in the area to support him by offering raffle prizes and displaying his poster.

He was also supported by clubs he attends including the 7th Eastleigh Cubs and AFC Stoneham.

Luca also got support from his mum Emma, 41, his dad Richard, 46, and his siblings Oscar, five and Violet, three.

Emma said: "We found out over the last six to 12 months that both J and Lewis had been diagnosed with cystic fibrosis so over the summer holidays Luca decided he wanted to raise some money.

"We do Junior Park Run so he decided he wanted to do something like that and it was the time the Great British Bake Off was on which he was obsessed with so he wanted so do the two things.

"The whole community came together behind him in support. Everybody was out in yellow. It was a ray of sunshine in the middle of Fair Oak in a muddy field.

"It all came together so wonderfully for him."

At the end of the event Luca was presented with a Saints flag with his name on it as a thank you from Josef and Lewis.
