HORRIFYING footage shows how a man’s head was inches from being run over after a driver ‘saw red’ and ploughed into a group of revellers outside a nightclub.

The friends were at The Penthouse Bar in Carlton Place, Southampton, enjoying a birthday night out when they spilled out onto the pavement before going elsewhere.

But their night was cut short when Mahibur Rahman, 24, lost his temper and smashed his car into the group in an attempt to get past.

As previously reported by the Daily Echo, they were tossed about like skittles and Jordan Jeffries, 22, was just inches away from having his head fall under the wheels of the £16,000 BMW.

VIDEO: Footage shows Mr Jeffries, circled, being hit by the car

Mr Jeffries, whose birthday the group had been celebrating, described how he lived with the guilt of somehow believing that what happened was his fault because he had kicked out.

He said: "Some of my friends who I have known since primary school have suffered such lasting injuries."

All seven victims suffered injuries when Rahman ploughed "two tonnes of metal into them" - and each will carry the mental scars of what happened for the rest of their lives.

Southampton Crown Court heard how doorman Michael Penn, 37, who substituted his income as a plumber by trade with the extra work, had been unable to work for many months.

He now needs reconstructive surgery on both knees and has been forced to give up his much loved martial arts and sports.

Mr Penn said he had "struggled to cope" but was "truly thankful" to the medics who were helping him to recover.

He said: "I'm just glad that nobody was killed by this person’s actions - I thank God for it."

Judge Gary Burrell QC accepted that Rahman, of Pointout Road, Southampton, was a man of previous good character and had suffered a lapse of judgement.

Jailing Rahman for six years, Judge Burrell said: “This was an absolutely horrific incident - you lost your temper, it's as simple as that.

"You deliberately drove in to a crowd of innocent young people, where you were bound to cause them injury - you scattered them on collision.

"It is a wonder no one was killed, but the head of one of those people was very close to the wheel. You could easily have been facing a murder or manslaughter charge.”
