TODAY marks the grand finale of a week of celebrations for a day Southampton will never forget.

On May 1, 1976, Bobby Stokes scored the only goal against Manchester United at a packed-out Wembley to win the FA Cup.

There were huge celebrations in the streets and this afternoon will be dedicated to that special day.

The Daily Echo has gathered a huge gallery of unseen pictures from 40 years ago, which can be seen above.

The events begin with a reception at Southampton Civic Centre hosted by Mayor Linda Norris, which will be followed by an open-top bus parade through the streets.

Organisers have issued a rallying cry to supporters to line the streets once more to cheer on the 1976 boys.

The players and McMenemy will then be shown to the crowd at St Mary's before the City match and will then head over to the Mayflower for the show which starts at 8pm.
