STORMS have brought travel chaos across Hampshire, with more storms on their way.

Trees have been been brought down and flooding has blocked main roads.

One tree has blocked part of a motorway junction while another fell on top of a van.

A weather alert for Hampshire has also been issued warning of more downpours and possible flooding.

The Met Office have issued a warning saying: "Thunderstorms are arriving across southeast England and will continue through the rush hour."

Thornhill Primary school in Byron Road, Southampton has been completely shut today due to the torrential downpour.

They will stay shut on Friday as well.

Durley CofE School has also been shut after it was devastated by flash floods.

The main road out of Southampton is also partially blocked due to flooding.

Commuters are being warned of a fallen tree for drivers using the M27 The tree has fallen and blocked one lane of the Junction Eight slip road.

 The westbound junction is the turn off for Bursledon and Hamble.

The route was originally closed just after 3pm for over an hour, but traffic can join the motorway again via lane two while the tree is being cut down.

Meanwhile Winchester Road has also been closed due to two fallen trees near Botley.

One of the trees has fallen on top of a van.

The incident has happened between B3342 Bubb Lane / Snakemoor Lane (Denham's Corner, Botley) and B3037 Eastleigh Road / Stubbington Way.

Mewnwhile, flooding is causing problems for drivers across the county.

Standing water has caused lane closures on main roads and blocked others.

Two lanes of Millbrook Road heading out of Southampton have been blocked.

Botany Road in Sholing, in Southampton, has also been closed due to flooding.

Flooding has also returned to Chilworth Road, where two weeks ago drivers got stuck in standing water.

Roads chiefs are also warning that Broad Oak in Botley is just passable due to flooding.

A flood warning has also been issued for Bishops Waltham and Botley due to the massive downpour last night.

More than 50mm rain fell on Bishops Waltham in six hours and the water levels in the upper River Hamble between Bishops Waltham and Botley are high and continuing to rise. 

According to a statement issued by the Environment Agency, vulnerable properties along the river are at risk from flooding, including in Durley Mill and Botley Mills.

The statement says: "Levels are expected to peak before midday. Residents and businesses with flood protection products should deploy them.

"Water levels in the North Pond at Bishops Waltham are up in response to the recent rainfall."

It adds that further heavy showers are forecast from this afternoon into tonight and residents should remain prepared whilst these heavy thunderstorms are possible.

Weather experts at the Met Office have issued a yellow alert for Hampshire today.

It warns that the county could be hit by further downpours.

The statement says: "Although some areas will miss them, potentially intense thundery downpours seem likely to affect parts of the warning area from Wednesday late afternoon or early evening onwards into the early hours of Thursday or Thursday morning.

"Further scattered thunderstorms are then likely to break out from Thursday afternoon onwards into Thursday night.

"Please be aware of possible disruption to travel and localised flooding as well as frequent lightning."
