YOUNGSTERS in Southampton celebrated the iconic, Hampshire-built Spitfire aircraft at a special workshop.
Children aged six years old and over swooped on Southampton’s SeaCity Museum to have a go at making their own Spitfires.
The aircraft were a vital component of the British victory in the Battle of Britain against Nazi Germany, which saw the country’s future threatened by Hitler’s airforce.
The commemorative workshop saw the youngsters transform two-litre drinks bottles and card into mini planes ready to take flight in bedrooms across the county.
The event was part of a series of workshops the Havelock Road museum has hosted throughout the school summer break.
And there are more to come as six- to 11-year-olds become Romans for the day on Wednesday and then children aged eight and over will make their own plaster-cast cruise ships on August 31.
