Police are appealing for witnesses following a road smash between a lorry a van which left a driver with horrific leg injuries.

A 48-year-old man was taken to hospital with "life changing" injuries when his Isuzu flatbed van was in collision with a Mercedes articulated goods lorry in Southampton Road in Bartley close to the junction with Bourne Road at 3.20pm yesterday.

Crews from Redbridge, Totton and Cosham fire stations used cutting gear to free him.

The injured man, from Winsor, in Hampshire, suffered serious leg injuries and was taken to Southampton General Hospital.

The lorry driver was uninjured.

A spokeswoman for Hampshire Constabulary said: "Officers investigating the collision are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision or saw either vehicle prior to the incident to come forward."
