A MAN has died after being hit by a train on a Hampshire railway line.

The incident happened between Portsmouth Harbour and Fratton stations earlier this morning.

A British Transport Police statement said: "British Transport Police officers were called to Portsmouth Harbour rail station following reports of a person struck by a train.

"The call came into police at 5.04am today.

"Officers attended alongside paramedics. A man was taken to hospital, where he later died.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious. A file will be prepared for the coroner."

Rail users are facing severe disruptions and South West Trains says that services running to and from the stations may be cancelled, delayed or revised.

A statement says: "Emergency services were called to an incident early this morning between Fratton and Portsmouth Harbour.

"We have now been able to turn the power supply to our trains back on following the completion of their work and are expecting trains to resume shortly.

"Train services will terminate and start back from Portsmouth & Southsea or Fratton until further notice."
