A HAMPSHIRE road will be closed for two days after a water main burst.
Stoneham Lane in Southampton was submerged under several inches of water and Southern Water engineers were at the scene yesterday.
Pictures showed a significant amount of damage on the road caused by the incident just north of the junction with Channels Farm Road.
Motorists continued to use the road despite the water although it was reduced to one operational lane.
But now engineers say it will be closed until Thursday evening to allow for repairs.
A Southern Water statement said: "We're continuing repairs in Stoneham Lane, Southampton.
"The road will remain closed with diversions in place until Thursday night.
"We worked overnight to fix, including removing a 70ft high ash tree to allow us access to continue excavation of [a] main.
"Water supply has returned to all properties in Southampton and we would like to thank customers for their patience and understanding."
