A PEDESTRIAN has been flown to a Southampton hospital with serious life threatening injuries after being knocked from a bridge.

The male believed to be in his mid 20s was struck by a vehicle along the Worting Road in Basingstoke, which goes over the A340, when the car swerved to avoid a collision with another vehicle.

As a result the pedestrian fell off to bridge onto the southbound carriageway of Ringway West where he was struck by other vehicle.

Paramedics arrived on the scene at around 9.45am, where the man was taken to Southampton General Hospital by air ambulance.

The road remains closed in both directions as an investigation is being carried out and the hazardous response team make the area safe as the railing of the bridge has been damaged.

South Central Ambulance staff also treated the female driver of one of the vehicles for shock, but no other injuries were sustained.

Motorist are advised to seek alternative routes while the both the Ringway West of the A340 and Worting Road remain closed.
