A DOG has died in a chip pan fire at a holiday park in the New Forest.

The fire broke out at a chalet at the Sandy Balls Holiday Village in Godshill just before 6pm on Wednesday, January 11. 

The chalet was “significantly damaged” in the blaze with pictures posted by Fordingbridge Fire Station showing the charred remains of the building.

Fire crews from Fordingbridge and Ringwood attended along with firefighters from Cranborne.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said: “Smoke and flames were issuing as crews arrived on the scene with the building significantly damaged in the blaze.

“Firefighters in breathing apparatus entered the property to remove the dog which had sadly died.”

The spokesperson said one casualty was given immediate emergency care by firefighters.

They were treated for smoke inhalation.

The fire was extinguished using jets and hose reels before ventilation fans cleared the smoke.

The stop message came in at 7.40pm.

Hampshire fire service one crew is set to return to conduct a reinspection and check for remaining hot spots.

Fordingbridge Fire Station said: "Last night we attended a severe house fire caused by a chip pan.

"Please try to avoid cooking using chip pans if you possibly can."
