Tina Turner flash mob takes over Whiteley Shopping Centre

Buskerteers, a collection of choirs on a mission to raise £1 million for charity, raised £9,000 for Comic Relief on the day and are now releasing the song as a single in a bid to reach their £20,000 target before Red Nose Day on Friday. 

Led by Kurt Munro, conducting the singers dressed as the music icon Tina Turner, the choirs performed a powerful rendition of Grammy Award winning hit Proud Mary to the delight of the gathered crowds taking a break from shopping and dining.

Choir members from Southampton and Brockenhurst were among those performing on February 24. 

The single itself includes the voices of 1400 singers, recorded performing for 27 separate choirs. 

Buskerteers Choirs is an amalgamation of several community choirs to form an award-winning group aiming to fundraise through busking. 

Founder and director of the Buskerteers Choir, Andrew Small, was nominated for a Pride of Britain Award in 2021 for the group's fundraising. 

The total raised for charities so far is £122,522.91. Among the charities to benefit have been Sophie's Legacy, the Stubbington charity launched in memory of ten-year-old Sophie Fairall, who passed away in 2021 to improve conditions and research for childhood cancer patients and sick children. 

Sutton Scotney-based children's hospices Naomi House & Jacksplace have also been on the receiving end of a cash boost. 

The choir is open to anyone and everyone who wants to learn awesome songs by rote in three-part harmony, have great fun doing it and busk on the streets for charitable causes.
