A Fareham photographer captured the moment the skies over Mexico plunged into darkness during yesterday’s solar eclipse.

The pictures shared by the Daily Echo Camera Club member, Yen Milne, taken from Mexico show the moment when the earth, moon and sun lined up perfectly to create the cosmic scale shadow.Daily Echo: The moment the moon was seen lining up with the sunThe moment the moon was seen lining up with the sun (Image: Yen Milne)Daily Echo: The moment the moon was seen lining up with the sunThe moment the moon was seen lining up with the sun (Image: Yen Milne)

Millions of people also flocked to the American states of Texas, Arkansas, Ohio and Vermont where the path of totality lay – where the moon covers the sun completely.

Some 44 million Americans live in that path, with hundreds of millions close enough to witness most of the sun obscured or needing to travel a short distance to see a total eclipse.

Despite being slightly obscured by clouds, the moment leading to the phenomenon shows the moon lining up with the sun before completely covering it.
