Maritime UK Solent is now recruiting industry experts to join its board as a non-executive director.

The voluntary roles require individuals from the private sector with a proven track record of leadership within the maritime small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) community and/or the marine sector, with expertise in maritime innovation or green shipping.

They would be involved in nurturing relationships and spearheading initiatives to expand and elevate the Solent maritime economy.

Candidates must be able to dedicate one day a month to board duties.

Anne-Marie Mountifield, chair of Maritime UK Solent, said: "The maritime sector contributes around 25 per cent of the total economic output of the Solent economy and is undoubtedly our core sector.

"Our ambition is for the Solent to be recognised globally for maritime excellence, enabling maritime businesses and organisations operating in the region to benefit from the Solent brand and make us the first choice for maritime investment and collaboration."

The recruitment drive, she said, comes on the heels of the Government's newly released commitment to a £1m fund in aid of the development of maritime cluster organisations.

She added: "Now is the perfect opportunity to find individuals who can help us lead, champion, and grow the Solent maritime sector and truly make a difference."

First launched in 2019, the body has positioned itself as the voice of the maritime sector in the region, directing £7.7bn of economic output.

Maritime UK Solent ensures that opinions from the Solent maritime sector can influence national maritime decision-making and leadership, offering a direct avenue to Government.

Maritime UK Solent champions the breadth of maritime excellence, with world-leading capabilities across Ports and Shipping, Maritime Defence, Training, Academia and Research, Shipbuilding, Leisure Marine, Heritage and Tourism, Professional Services, and Regulation.

Ms Mountifield added: "We are looking for talented, dedicated, and experienced individuals who are willing to be ambassadors for the sector, bringing energy and passion as champions for the Solent's economic success.

"Now is the perfect opportunity to help us take Maritime UK Solent to the world stage and we look forward to meeting our applicants."

The closing date for applications is June 3.
