TWO men held in connection with a spree of violence in queuing traffic in Southampton have been bailed by police.

A 33-year-old and a 29-year-old both from the city were arrested on suspicion of causing a public order offence following attacks on vehicles in Bitterne.

Terrified motorists watched in horror when two men hurled stones and missiles and kicked out at their vehicles in West End Road.

The attack was launched their attack while drivers were waiting at traffic lights - and one man allegedly tried trying to snatch a pet dog from a car, officers later eventually swooped and arrested two men outside the Cooperative store close to the roundabout with Townhill Way.

At least two police cars, a riot van and an armed unit were believed to have been called in the aftermath of the incident which took place at 11am on Wednesday [July 1].

A spokesman for Hampshire Constabulary said two men have been released on bailed until September 9 pending further enquiries.
