A SHOCKING image appears to show a man who took part in a vicious acid attack laughing at an image of a woman holding her face.

Billy Midmore, 23, was found guilty of taking part in an attack in Guildhall Square, Southampton, that left Carla Whitlock disfigured and blind in one eye.

And a picture has been uploaded to social media site Facebook showing Midmore smiling and holding up a smartphone that shows a woman lying on the ground clutching her face.

During the trial Southampton Crown Court heard that Carla Whitlock was wearing black jeans, while the woman in the photograph appears to be wearing shorts.

As previously reported by the Daily Echo Midmore, along with his brother Geoff, bought drain cleaner and threw it in the face of the 37-year-old mum of six on September 18 last year.

Billy Midmore was found guilty of GBH with intent after a seven-day trial at Southampton Crown Court in April.

During the trial, jurors heard how the attack was a "debt to be paid" and organised by Billy and his brother Geoffrey, both of Sheephouse Way, after Ms Whitlock called asking for £100 of drugs and at least two men met Geoffrey and stole £2,000 worth of drug money.

The court was also shown CCTV footage of Billy Midmore buying drain cleaner.

His brother Geoffrey pleaded guilty to the attack at the first opportunity.

Midmore will be sentenced at Southampton Crown Court on Tuesday.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Justice said that prisoners are not allowed access to social media sites like Facebook and Twitter while in custody.
