A HAMPSHIRE woman has been named as a regional winner for the Pride of Britain Awards 2014.

Rosie Mitchell from Southampton will now go forward to this year's national awards which praise the UK's unsung heroes.

The intensive care nurse at Southampton General Hospital has helped the charity Friends of PICU (Paediatric Intensive Care Unit), which supports critically ill children, to raise a million pounds towards equipment and help families whose babies are in their care.

Rosie is one of 17 regional winners making up the finalists who will make the trip to London to attend the nation's biggest awards show for unsung heroes at the Grosvenor House on London's Park Lane. Rosie is now in the running to win the prestigious national Pride of Britain award.

Peter Willis, founder of the Pride of Britain Awards, said: “Many congratulations to Rosie on her achievement. We're delighted she will join us at the Pride of Britain Awards. It's going to be a night to remember.”

The national winner of the Fundraiser Award will be announced live on the night of the ceremony which will be televised in early October on ITV, in a two-hour special.

This year's Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards, sponsored by Lidl, will be packed with stories of heroism and courage, uplifting moments and hilarious surprises, where a host of well-known faces pay tribute to the nation's unsung heroes.

Among celebrities who have taken part in the awards are David Beckham, Sir Elton John, Sir Paul McCartney, Prime Minister David Cameron, Kylie Minogue, Dame Helen Mirren and Ewan McGregor.
