Schneiderlin's the best tackler in Europe
8:25am Friday 25th January 2013

Morgan Schneiderlin has gone from the depths of League One to officially establish himself as one of the top midfielders in Europe.
The Frenchman had only been at Saints for one season when they were relegated to the third tier of English football.
But the former Strasbourg man stayed with the club and battled back to the top flight where he has become a star name.
His impact and importance has been underlined this week by official figures that cover players from Europe’s top five divisions.
They show that Schneiderlin has made 162 tackles and interceptions this season, more than any other player across the five major leagues of Europe.
He also tops the average number of tackles made per game for any outfield player in the Premier League with 4.1 while an average of 3.3 interceptions per match puts him fifth in the top flight.
Schneiderlin’s £1.2m signing in the summer of 2008 was one of the first deals Rupert Lowe completed on his controversial return to St Mary’s.
The midfielder was only 18 when he joined the club, moving away from home for the first time to a country where he knew little of the football that awaited him and didn’t speak the language.
His first season was a tough one as he was thrust into a very young side that floundered in the Championship, eventually getting relegated as the club plunged into administration.
When Alan Pardew took over he immediately spotted Schneiderlin’s potential and went about toughening him up.
Over the course of a season Schneiderlin was turned from a flair player who had an excellent range of passing but was easily physically beaten by the punishing players of League One into an all-round talent.
Under Nigel Adkins he started to develop into a thoroughbred of a holding central midfield player and has flourished the further up the divisions he has gone.
Landing in the Premier League has suited him even better and his partnership with the fit again Jack Cork has arguably proved the catalyst for Saints turning their season around.
Schneiderlin has long since been linked with a move to Arsenal and you can see why Arsene Wenger might be a fan.
But Schneiderlin is a fixture at Saints these days and at just 23-years-old has already made over 150 appearances for the club.

No mention that he also covers the most mileage in the PL - and can score as well. Must surely be in the French squad soon.

I'd love to have official confirmation that I have the best tackle in Europe.
Him and Corky have been a revelation since they joined up again this season. Morgan is up amongst the best defensive midfielders in the country - but I think his job is made easier with Cork in the team.
I would love to see him score more - like against United - but his role is protecting the fragile back four (in the middle).
We know he gets it wrong sometimes - look at the yellow card count. However compared to many he seems to be able to control the aggression when required.
I guess he will be one of the first names on the team sheet these days along with Guly & Ramirez!!

RESPECT TO PUNCH FOR UPPING HIS GAME.
We all know how Fergie and Manure work. We have history of beating them.
He taps his watch - the signal fo the midfield to up their tempo and then as a footballing side they pin the opposition in the final third of the football pitch pressurizing and taking pot shots on goals with RVP to smash in goals.
FRUSTRATE FERGIE and when the time comes - hit him where it hurts with a SMASH into the back of their net -to produce the red face and familiar water in his eyes.
HIT HIM where it hurts - he does not ike it UP him.
European sides have gone to Old Trafford and got the WIN. We are showing Eurpean Form - so why not us ???
A visit to the Nou Camp will have done the MIGHTY SOUTHAMPTON'S confidence no harm at all at what can be achieved.

supporter I felt very down after NA was dismissed.
The Everton game made me feel a lot better. The players just play for the club it seems.
I then read the Sky article 'Saints masterplan 'on News Now Southampton from Wed 23rd. It made things much clearer.
One thing for sure try not to worry to much on what others say. They all have their own agenda. Listen to Redknapp stirring it about NA . He's only doing it to put extra pressure on us

Of course the two cities are rivals too now in attracting cruise ships, but they're a poor second on that score. And come to think of it, in all it's history as the top title, Premiership, is one ship that's never once docked in Liverpool.

As for the Liverpool Post oh well who gives a stuff. Wanted Liverpool, Everton, Chelsea, Arsenal, M, Utd, M City, Spurs to get relegated for years as do most who do not support them.
Must grate that we are challenging them for signings. Liverpool has become a floundering antique that has lived on its past for too long. Once considered one of the top clubs in Europe, it now fights to try and be a mid table club. Take out their super striker and Gerrard and Liverpool would struggle to be that.
We maybe plucky underdogs for now, but why do Liverpool delude themselves that they are still one of the big clubs.

Liverpool and Southampton are both proud port cities, both built on the hard graft of their dockers, and both of them share a common enemy in the form of the neoliberal economic policymakers who have run down our trade unions and set worker against worker in their quest to find chearper, more casualised labour. Sometimes I think the people of Southampton and Liverpool should join forces and march on Downing Street and hang the bankers from the lamp posts. That would be the actions of a sane society.

Of course the two cities are rivals too now in attracting cruise ships, but they're a poor second on that score. And come to think of it, in all it's history as the top title, Premiership, is one ship that's never once docked in Liverpool.
There was a headline in the news a while ago - "Van Gogh bought for £58m" - and the thicko Liverpool Echo was outraged he hadn't been signed on at Anfield instead.
But then I think "We've got Ramirez - ha ha ha" and go and make a cup of tea.
I shifted right when the Poopey fans moved to establish common ownership and adopted the socialist slogan: "We've got nothing and we want to share it with the world!"
That said, I do reserve the right to buy my risotto rice from Waitrose. I know everyone assumes that all rice is the same but there's a certain... je ne sais quoi about Waitrose rice that brings an added creaminess to any risotto and brings it up to the standard you'd expect to find in a fairly decent restaurant. (Adding a decent balsamic to your rocket also helps, obviously.)

I am not knocking the fella, I would love him to start banging in goals or assisting but he has to offer more direct threat for most..... my gut feeling is that he will have a quiet 12/13 season, but will stay and will be influencial next season.
