Saints ace Rickie's heading for his ton

By Adam Leitch

Rickie's heading for his ton

Rickie Lambert is just two goals away from notching a century for Saints and in the process becoming one of the club’s top ten post-war goalscorers.

Lambert has already bagged 98 goals for Saints since his move from Bristol Rovers in 2009 and looks like the best £1m Alan Pardew may have ever spent.

The 30-year-old is on the verge of an incredible milestone for the club, with upcoming away games at Manchester United and Wigan giving him the chance of bagging a piece of history.

Only nine players have previously scored 100 goals for Saints in the post-war era.

Rickie Lambert has carried us from the moment he arrived at the club.
In all of the years I have watched Saints there has never been a more gifted centre forward.
I hope that he retains the captains arm band in this new managerial era.
His vocal and physical drive plus his talismanic aura, lifts the team that previous captains have been unable to do.
We need our best leader in the captains position.
I know Adam Lallana would be p1ssed off but it will concentrate his mind on his own football.
His time will come again.

The 100 goals will be a milestone for Rickie but that will be followed by many more.
COYS.

P.S.
It's good to see the many new posters on this site.
Pitty it has taken the contentious issue of the sacking of Nigel to prompt them to respond.

Any way WELCOME one and all.

Rickie Lambert is one of the greatest players to play for the club. He is a mighty leader, a powerful scorer. He lacks pace but his goal-scoring ability and remarkable penalty-taking makes up for these things. He is a true Saint.

Ricky, like Le Tiss, is not blessed with speed and relies on his positional sense and physique.
He isn't going to lose those.
The experience he is gaining in the Prem is making him a better player.
The same goes for Jrod.
He is going to get better.
Most of the players who are playing regularly now have stepped up and shown their ability.
New signings will need to be better than what we have. That will make them expensive!
At the end of this season there will be squad players moving on, end of contract moving on.
Everyone thinks Punch should get a new contract, if he isn't being offered one then Who have they got in mind to replace him?
Exciting times to be a Saints fan.

Remember Ron Davies four goals at Manchester Utd and Busby's praise for our centre forward and MOTD interview (in black and white, see Youtube). Great quote from Rickie in the sports section of this month's Mathematics Journal....

"A hundred goals for Saints would be great. After all, 100 is the sum of the first nine prime numbers and the sum of the first ten odd numbers. But more than that the fans would like to see me get a goal total equal to 1+8+27+64 - the sum of the first four cube numbers!"

"Also I remember my missus saying when I joined Saints that she'd love to see me score 100 because that is the molecular weight of calcium carbonate."

FSimon Wright a visiting West Bromwich Albion fan informs me; 'Beside the away turnstiles is an entrance to a bar, specifically for the use of away fans. It has the usual bar, big screen television and sells pies, as well as teas and coffees. It's a great facility and welcomes families' It is know as the Marquee Bar as it resembles one inside. The traditional pub for away fans visiting the DW stadium is the Red Robin, which is only a few minutes walk away from the ground opposite the Cinema Complex.

Otherwise in the centre of town is a Wetherspoons outlet called the 'Moon Under Water' which was popular with away supporters on my last visit. Also worth a visit is the award winning 'Anvil' pub, which is located next to the bus station. Both these pubs are listed in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide. Also worth a mention is the Berkeley on Wallgate (near the railway station). This fair sized pub, had a good mix of home and away supporters on my last visit, serves five ever changing real ales and shows Sky Sports on a huge screen. Otherwise alcohol is available inside the stadium. Andrew MacGregor adds; 'The Swan and Railway pub opposite North Western railway station was very welcoming. They encouraged us to put our Reading flag up in the window and were very pleasant to us all'.
ound this - where then?

Also intersting the Echo did not pick up on it. Possibly not negative enough about the current regime.

I read that too, he’s a clever lad our Rickie.
What I’d like him to explain to me is that if we were in conflict with France from 1337 to 1453, why was it called the 100 Year War?

No need to boycott the saints because of the style of the chairman. NC has the business side of the club to take care of. Given the current climate in commerce and the curtailing of free speech and civil rights over commercial interests we should not be surprised that a banker feels it is ok to behave towards fellow professionals.
However there has been no mention of a mrs Cortese, so I was wondering whether or not he has a partner and if not urge might be in need of a little loving himself.
That is assuming his tastes which may be incorrect, I don't know.
A youngish stunning saints fan who might welcome the challenge, as most young ladies see themselves as civilizers of men, she will have to be a smart cookie too, might change his whole attitude towards others.
Meanwhile where it matters,
Looking forward to Manure as I think they might face quite a surprise.

He makes comments framed as though he's a Saints' supporter but once everyone's twigged him and realises he's just winding people up, he descends into vile language and abuse, gets banned and comes back under a new identity. He's rather a sad character as we're his only friends. And we all think he's a twit.

I agree up to "To this end..."

If Ricky's performing, I think he'll keep him. If he's not (or if NC thinks he can get more cash than Ricky's worth to our results) he'll flog him.

the money we are spending needs to be balanced with both stadium capacity and the value of players we have to move on. if you are in the market for 10 mill players how do we pay for them whilst we wait for the NC/MP project to supply quility youth to our first team.

Thanks Boys, It’s a very patriotic and fun day over here.
As for the Aussie beer, here’s a couple of facts.

What evidence are you basing your opinion on?
the money we are spending needs to be balanced with both stadium capacity and the value of players we have to move on. if you are in the market for 10 mill players how do we pay for them whilst we wait for the NC/MP project to supply quility youth to our first team.
Looks like you will have a chance to confirm your views, Nicola Cortese is being interviewed on Sky Sports News at 6 pm tomorrow if tweets are to be believed.

I was at Old Trafford to see Ron Davies score four goals with Sydenham' s help back in the sixties. Hope to see Rickie do the same on Wednesday with the assistance of Punch,Ramirez and co. Then on to Wigan on Saturday. Plenty of parking near the ground, but avoid the retail park.

Not trying to have a dig at you but, what will happen if our club moves on with the new team in charge. What will your views be if the new man can attract world class players to our club?. Will you if you are one of the few that boycott games, return if things turn out better than before ? If so why not be on the bus from the start??. In all walks of life people get moved on ,some deserve it , some don't. Our NIGEL worked wonders for us fans and i believe all our feelings towards each other were mutaul. But N A was not the club we all support, only a very important part. Get back on the bus, it always looks better full than when there are one or two seats empty.
Rickie will go on to be one of the highest goal scorers for club , top three material. SAINTS TIL I DIE, home and away.

Nice to see Robbie Slater in the pics, he and Mark Bosnich are the 2 main pundits over here for the prem and A-League footy, I have to say they are very good.
Are Hansen and Lawrenson still relevant?

I always download the BBC 606 and World Football podcasts. Robbie Savage and Jason Roberts are slight knobs, but to be fair they are more current about the game from a pro footballer perspective.
Tim Vickery based in Rio is class.

quote from The News:

'-It means the Blues’ winless run is stretched to 15 matches as League Two beckons.

And this was one of the lowest points of a desperate season as Pompey lost to the only team beneath them in the division - who had won just two matches all term going into the clash.'

Hopefully the suffering can be prolonged for a few more months before everyone realises the pst is skint in the traditional Pompey way.

It seems that the days the team have had in Barcelona have been a great success. The pictures on the website show Lallana back training and I was impressed to see NC standing next to MP and the coaching start. Apparently he has been interpreting for the team and MP.

It will be interesting now to see how the team evolves I think MP will get the best out if each player and despite what I've said in the past I think we may all see both Ramirez and Guly come in to their own and shine. I really hope so.

I've a good feeling about this new manager. If I was a betting man I'd bet that we get a result either a win or draw against United on

I think Shaw needs cover as its asking a lot for one so young to play every game at this level. Possibly another striker. Not knocking Guly or Steve De Ridder but behind Puncheon and Lallana we could do with strengthening.

This new Brazilian can play both flanks. We are weaker on the flank and up front when Gaston has to cover wide, as by far his best position is just behind Rickie.

I would not touch the Schiederlan Cork combination, but Ward Prowse and Davis provide adequate cover.

Though with a new manager there may be new opportunities for them I think the time may have come for Steeeeeeeve and Chaplow to find more opportunities elsewhere,

I think there is definitely that but they have also maybe come to the conclusion that having Gaston cover left had the double impact of us missing him up front, and also him not playing so well or tracking back in that position.

Starting Guly out left instead of Gaston, with Mayuka at African Nations, may have left natural opportunities for De Ridder/Chaplow as subs down the flanks

Not sure what the plans are for Tadanari Lee and Mayuka..

Wednesday!!!!!!! N
Let's hope so. I don't think we can ever have gone into a game as well-prepared as we are for this one.

If we take three points it'll be the best 45 (FORTY-FCUKING-FIVE) quid I've ever spent.

Let's be loud.

They have definitely not featured much up until.

I don't know why Adkins never used Mayuka or Tad Lee as impact subs (Maybe forever punished for the Leeds debacle or just the rise of J Rod), or along side Lambert as they can both get behind defences but they may get their chance.

We should get more of an idea of how Potechinno wants to organize the team going forwards on Wednesday now they have had some time together. Hopefully we will see another class signing as well!!!

I understand we can have up to 5000 for the first throw of the dice...I doubt if we will sell them all after last week.
First time ever to Wigan for a match - must make a good impression. Want at least 3000 in this 6-pointer to cheer them on. It's only £20 - best value game in The Premier League!
Don't shout as much as REDARMY1 - but a lot more bite then Kent141!!
Alas, we're not going to Wigan. We'll be over for Newcastle, though. Everything booked bar the match tickets, but they're in hand.

At least I'll be able to abuse all the Toon players in their own language :)
Likewise - I'm going to be in York on Saturday, then Toon Sunday. My train hits Newcastle around 11am , been a while since my last visit...
Great! We're in Ripon till Saturday and are then heading up to Necastle. Are you a member of the Echo Saints Facebook forum?

They get the -10 when they come out of Admin. Hopefully Birch can drag it on to the end of the season so we get the full benefit of the -10 next season.

Credit where it's due, they had 10,981 ou tof 21,100 seats taken. That's just over 50% full. Well done Portsmouth!
50% isn't bad for a small, struggling Division 1 team and I don't want to knock it, but it was a relegation six-pointer, so that probably added a couple of thousand to the attendance.

I read today that if Portsmouth has not resolved its financial position and is out of administration by June 2013 then it will be excluded from the football league. So it would appear that keep seeking adjournments apart from making the lawyers and administrator richer is doing nothing more than postponing the inevitable!!!!!!!!!!

Yep. When everyone's fit the first eleven more or less picks itself. The only question mark for me will be who starts at centre back. My money's on Heggem and Yoshida, although Jos has been pretty decent of late. Whoever it is they need to give RVP a massive kick in the first minute and hope no one sees.

I'm going to be watching in one of the local Irish pubs with some City fans. I say 'City' fans because that's what they're literally called no matter who they're against. I know this because I was following today's early kick-off FA Cup match which, apparently, was between Stoke and City.

Had I been a Stoke City fan, I'd have been furious with the commentators.

Anyway, I digress, the important thing is that, along with everyone who is from Alsace (because they all support Arsenal) there'll be a hell of a lot of people willing Saints to win, especially with Morgan in the team.

When we win, I'm going to drink my weight in sh!t local beer! Should be a great night.

The Sun goes with: "I hope Fergie likes my wine. Saints New Argie Boss revels greatest fear."

Classy! (Good interview though) Gives some insight (the Suns opinion) as to why Adkins had to go suggesting there was some player pressure.

I think Big Rick will reach a Ton at Manure.
Im not sure if any fans who will now boycott home games will still go to the occasional away game but it will be interesting to see how many travel.
Good Morning three halves, are you one of the fans stating they will boycott games because of the sacking of N.A ??.
Not trying to have a dig at you but, what will happen if our club moves on with the new team in charge. What will your views be if the new man can attract world class players to our club?. Will you if you are one of the few that boycott games, return if things turn out better than before ? If so why not be on the bus from the start??. I see no sense in not going to home games and being a part of the club, but go to away games and support the club, what will this prove?.
Don't get me wrong i was very much against this change but , when you calm down and think about it can you name one person that is bigger than SFC ?
In all walks of life people get moved on ,some deserve it , some don't. Our NIGEL worked wonders for us fans and i believe all our feelings towards each other were mutaul. But N A was not the club we all support, only a very important part. Get back on the bus, it always looks better full than when there are one or two seats empty.
Rickie will go on to be one of the highest goal scorers for club , top three material. SAINTS TIL I DIE, home and away.
Morning Bob. Yes i will boycott all home and away games from now on and wont be back whatever success the club may get under Cortese and i know that others will be doing the same.
Yours and their loss in this exciting time for Saints......still Sh*tmuff are looking for deluded fans. Off you go.

COYR
HE ALREADY IS A FAN.

I was just taking the P.

Hey won't they start on -10 in the 4 th Division (Sounds better) if they go down in their own right ??? Without the influence of the 10 point deduction????

Didn't that happen to Saints in their first year in League 1 (Sounds better) .......
They get the -10 when they come out of Admin. Hopefully Birch can drag it on to the end of the season so we get the full benefit of the -10 next season.
10.000 empty seats and that deluded three halfs kent141 moreglory went on about the everton gate .nom doubt he will come out with plenty of tickets for old trafford left.what ever the login is its the same old crap every time ,just a 10 year old seeking attention .dont fall for it hedge end bob in particular

I'll be there warrens 76 - need to sort out a pub...is Strassie and the little Strassie's coming too?

Nearer the time, I guess people on there will suggest pubs to meet in on the day.
Ah, thanks for the tip, just joined :-)
