Saints keeper Artur Boruc has joined Bournemouth on loan.

The keeper, who lost the number-one shirt at St Mary’s this summer, moved to the Championship club on a short-term deal until January today.

Boruc, 34, has been keen to leave ever since being displaced by £10m summer signing Fraser Forster, in order to gain first-team football.

The Poland international, who is out of contract next summer, joined Saints on a free transfer in 2012 and has made 50 appearances for the club.

Cherries manager Eddie Howe, in an exclusive interview with our sister paper, the Bournemouth Echo, said: "We have good competition for places in every other position and I wanted to increase it in the goalkeeping department.

"I am a firm believer that you always get the best out of people when they are pushing one another.

"Artur is a presence and has a great deal of experience behind him, both at club and international level.

"He was Southampton’s first-choice goalkeeper in the Premier League last season, he kept a number of clean sheets and performed very well.

"He is good on crosses, a very good shot-stopper and comfortable with his feet. I think we are getting a very good goalkeeper and someone who has been there at the very highest level.

"I have every confidence he will prove to be a good signing for us."
