NEW signing Scott Joyce celebrated his return to Brockenhurst by pulling off one of the shocks of yesterday’s FA Cup preliminary round.

With just 20 seconds of stoppage time remaining at Grigg Lane, Joyce – signed on the brink of Friday’s transfer deadline from Blackfield & Langley – popped up with a sensational late winner against Southern League outfit Yate Town.

The Sydenhams Premier Division hosts had fallen behind to Jake Jackson’s first half penalty, given away by Iain Calder for shirt pulling in the box.

But dual-signed Eastleigh defender Jack Smith levelled with 12 minutes to go, netting a far-post header from a corner, and Yate were soon reduced to ten men when Matt Vilas was shown a straight red card for a professional foul on Brock sub Kabba Jack.

Then, from the last attack of the game, wideman Mark Barker beat the full-back and delivered a cross which Jamie Betteridge stepped over en route to Joyce. The master marksman took one touch before pulling the trigger, sparking wild celebrations from the jubilant home side.

Asked where the 2-1 win stood among his best ever Brock results, Badgers boss Pat McManus smiled: “It’s up there! Especially when you consider we had to rebuild and didn’t get a team together until the first game of the season.

“Yate thought they’d be waltzing through to play Mangotsfield and we’ve scuppered their local derby.

“It was an incredible day for the club. The supporters are made up.”

Brock will now host Mangotsfield United on Saturday week (September 12).

Blackfield & Langley also face an away tie in the first qualifying round at Cheltenham Saracens.

The Watersiders edged through their preliminary round test 1-0 against Bemerton Heath Harlequins, thanks to Rico Wilson’s 27th-minute winner.

Hamworthy United upset Andover Town 4-1 in the other all-Sydenhams Premier tie and will now travel to Bideford.
