PAUL Masters has done his level best to keep Winchester City’s abundance of attacking talent happy this season, but something had to give.

In the end there was nothing he could do to prevent Geoff Dunn leaving the Denplan City Ground to get more game time with Sydenhams Premier title contenders AFC Portchester.

“It’s disappointing,” the City boss conceded. “I like Geoff. When I came here last year he was hardly playing and he went on and did really well for us.

"His starts have been limited this season but he was still very much a part of the squad, but he felt he needed to go and play football.

“It’s a pity, but football moves on. We’ve signed Matt Benham, who’s 19 and has done well in much the same position as Geoff, and we’ve got young Harrison Fay pushing through.”

Winchester, meanwhile, have made two international additions to their squad.

Bouwe Bosma, a 19-year-old Dutch midfielder signed on dual registration from Eastbourne Borough, made his debut at Petersfield last weekend in the FA Trophy.

He is joined at the Denplan City ground by Francisco Santafe, a 24-year-old left-sided midfielder from Valencia, who recently played for Javea in the Spanish League.

“The Spanish lad has trained with us and looks good. We’ll see how he goes in a match format with the reserves,” said Masters. “He’s played at a high level in Spain but the way they play is a lot different. Over there you get a lot of time on the ball.

“We may have found a diamond or we may have someone who finds it difficult to adapt to the English game. We’ll see.”

Winchester, currently eighth in the Southern One South & West, head to third-placed Swindon Supermarine on Saturday. A month ago they won there 4-0 in the FA Cup first qualifying round.

Zach Glasspool is fit, Danny King looks promising, but Jake Newton is still a week or so away.
