JOSE Fonte says that Saints will be ready to exploit Manchester City’s insecurities at the Etihad Stadium today after two defeats in a week for Manuel Pellegrini’s side.

City have had a torrid week that saw them suffer a shock 4-1 home defeat to Liverpool in the Premier League and a 1-0 loss to Juventus in the Champions League, writes Peter Howard.

Fonte wants Saints to take advantage of what he expects will be an anxious atmosphere at the Etihad.

Ronald Koeman’s side will travel to City hoping to bounce-back after a 1-0 defeat to Stoke last weekend.

“They’re going to be edgy, the fans are going to be edgy,” he said. “The manager is a little bit under pressure, so we need to go there and exploit that for sure.

“I think it is a good time to go there.

“It is never a good time to go Man City, let’s put it that way, but after two defeats it’s always hard. We know that.

“When you are coming off two defeats you are always on the back foot, so we hope to exploit that.”

With Saints still unbeaten away from home this term, Fonte reckons Ronald Koeman’s side could go there and cause an upset.

“We believe in us, we have proved before that we compete against anyone,” he explained.

“We’ve beaten the big teams many times in the last three years, so for us it’s another game, another opportunity to get points.

“Especially after the disappointment on the last game at home, we really want to go there and try and recover the points we lost [against Stoke].

“Man City spend millions and millions on top quality players, we know that. We know their individual quality. We know that they can change the game in an instant.

“If we pull together everyone and get really organised, pushing in the same way and working really hard, we can create problems to any team.”

With the 1-0 defeat to the Potters still ringing in the players’ ears, Saints are going to City staunchly focused on their task.

That is despite the huge Capital One Cup quarter final against Liverpool at St Mary’s fast approaching on Wednesday.

“We’re not looking ahead of Man City – that’s the thing. We need to really focus on this game,” Fonte said.

“It’s a game that we want to win. It’s a game that we want to get a result.

“So we put to bed the Stoke disappointment and then we will think about Liverpool.

“But for now we look to this game, with a good mentality, with good feeling, because away from home we’ve been really good.

“We’re confident we want to go there and do something good.”
