FRASER Forster has not suffered any injury setback despite being omitted from Saints' under-21s tonight.

Forster, the £10m goalkeeper, was expected to start for the academy side but was left out to give Paulo Gazzaniga some playing time, the club confirmed.

Rather than suffering any hiccups as he works towards a full first-team comeback, the 27-year-old goalkeeper has actually been training with Ronald Koeman’s side all week with no issues.

Forster made his comeback from a nine-month injury lay-off last week, playing the full match and keeping a clean-sheet in an impressive performance for the under-21s in a 1-0 win over Chelsea in the U21 Premier Leauge Cup.

Koeman suggested the stopper would continue his rehabilitation for Martin Hunter's youngsters against Liverpool at Staplewood this evening.

However, the England custodian has not been selected with the club eager to ensure each keeper plays their fair share of minutes.

Gazzaniga has played two matches for Koeman's men this term, standing in for Maarten Stekelenburg for defeats to Crystal Palace and Tottenham.

However, he hasn't had any competitive game-time since then and the decision was made to allow the Argentine to start ahead of Forster.

It remains to be seen whether Forster's absence from the under-21s team means he will be available for the Premier League match against Watford at St Mary's on Wednesday night.
